When I turned to
notice that more guests were arriving, I began
clicking away on my digital camera --
hoping
to include everyone there. However, that did
not happen as it was getting too close for the
ceremonies to begin, and I decided to save my memory
card as much as possible as Dave and I were also
planning to attend the USC vs. UCLA track meet
following the ceremony.

I was fortunate to
capture the image of Wilbur "Moose" Thompson in three
photographs without knowing who he was.
Research led me to
find out that In 1948, 27 year old Wilbur Thompson
earned an Olympic gold medal in Shot Put with
one toss and achieved the winning distance of 56
feet 2 inches -- shattering the Olympic Record of 53
feet 1 ¼ inches held by Hans Woellke, Germany.

I
decided to include another old newspaper photograph
of both Thompson--discus; and Roland Sink -- miler
